It’s a classic story – we went shopping after lunch, popping into Elements in Dallas like we have so many times before.
But this time, not wanting to overextend (we are building a house, after all), we went in with the promise that we could each only buy one thing, and even then, only if we loved it. A limit that put pressure on the situation but also forced us to really think about our purchases, rather than just collect them (an admittedly bad habit).
After perusing the sale rack, sick of sweaters and feeling the onset of Spring, we moved on to the new arrivals, getting wrapped up in the lace and gauze like we do every year once March rolls around.
Our arms full of silk robes, full-piece bathing suits and beachy two-piece short sets, we headed into the dressing rooms, anxious to find that perfect something. One by one, we tried on our selections and paraded them out for the other to look at.
Had we gone in without setting a limit, the likelihood that we each would have left with a handful of garments would have been high. Being excited about a new season can do that to you.
But we had a limit. One thing.
So we narrowed down our selections, played eenie-meenie-miney-moe and whittled our dressing rooms down to only those things we couldn’t imagine our closet without. And then we narrowed some more.
That afternoon, we each left with one thing. One really amazing thing.

When the first designer Target collab came out, we stood in line with all of the other crazies and stocked up. We have Missoni x Target [insert anything you can think of here] and 3.1 Phillip Lim x Target accessories we definitely didn’t need. It was mania and we bought it in hook, line and sinker.
But over the last few years, the whole Target meets designer collab thing has kind of lost its zeal for us. Maybe it’s the fact that they’ve exhausted the designers that are the most adaptable to the collab formula, or maybe we are just suckers for novelty. Either way, we haven’t paid much attention to the collab game as of late. (Although, we must admit we are more than the slightest bit interested in what Victoria Beckham has up her sleeve for this next go around.)
Don’t get us wrong, we still love good design at reasonable prices, but like anything, with mass hysteria and popularity, the high-pressure purchasing and eventual eBay onslaught is just not as fun as it once was.
But then came Sugarfix by BaubleBar for Target.
We’ve always been big fans of BaubleBar‘s more affordable approach to jewelry trends, and were over the moon when we found out we could find them at Nordstrom. But an even more affordable (and equally killer) line that we can pick up while buying orange juice and wrapping paper? Come on guys, you’ve outdone yourself.

Katie and her good friend Tommy Cole were seen arriving to Vancouver’s YVR Airport on February 16th. I don’t no if she is back in Vancouver for Arrow (or the other two shows) or just to hang out with people, But 16 HQ photos from the day are now up in the gallery.

Designers ditched New York Fashion Week this season like they finally realized February in New York is freaking cold.
This season, Rebecca Minkoff joined the likes of Tom Ford, Tommy Hilfiger, and Rachel Zoe, and held her runway show in Los Angeles. Taking full advantage of the opportunity to attend a runway show outside in February (dreams do come true!), Katie hot-footed it down to The Grove to support Minkoff and this geniusly innovative show.
Sure, I bet we head back at some point (September, anyone?). The whole shenanigan is a grand ‘ol time. But for now, we are taking in the shows the way we’ve always wanted to – with a front row view from the comfort of our bed, wine glass in hand.

I just don’t no were to begin with the mess that is Arrow, First they put out a trailer that show’s it’s not Earth 1 Laurel but Earth 2’s one but getting to the episode it’s self Black Siren’s cry managed to destroy a building and take down the Flash and would kill a normal person (as said in the Flash) but now we are on Arrow it just knocks them over and that’s it. Black Siren has kick ass fighting skills (again as seen in the Flash) when she took down Barry but there were no were to be seen here and she could have used them a lot. BUT the one big thing is she got sucker punched by Felicity yes Felicity and is instantly knocked her out yet again on the Flash she got hit by a car and was back up again but nope one punch and she is out. Arrow has proven that it will never respect Dinah Laurel Lance, The Black Canary mantle or what the Flash did with Black Siren at the end of the day. And then there is the Tina thing with her now becoming the new The Black Canary as they no that they fu** up with killing the last one off so no she is going to stay dead but here is a new one for you all, I’m done with Arrow, Yes if Katie come’s back for a episode here or there I will watch it again but other then that goodbye show I can not take it any more. Ok I when a little over board on the rant here so I will end with HD screencaps from last night’s all new episode of Arrow 5×10 – Who Are You have been added to the gallery! Enjoy!

The official German release date has now been set for March 2nd, There is still no word on when the rest of the word will be getting it but I would guess last March to April time for more. But not only did we get this bit of news but we got six new movie stills released as well, And you can now view them in the gallery.

Winter in Los Angeles is not unlike Fall in the Southern California metropolis. Every morning the air has a slight chill that lingers like a fog at risk of being blown away at any moment. The sun is out (always), the air is crisp and it feels like Fall would were you to live anywhere else.
It’s as if you always almost need a coat but never reach the point of risking hauling it around all day on the near guaranteed chance it becomes unnecessary. So you grab your leather jacket (the Los Angeles equivalent of a Canada Goose parka), and carry on, ready to remove layers should the winter wind blow the morning chill out to the sea and leave you alone with the sun.
Some might say it’s a little like Groundhog Day, year in and year out. The seasons are so similar, the wardrobe more of the same. But I would argue those people are missing the beauty in what it is by focusing on what it’s not.
Besides, when the itch to get out that blanket coat you couldn’t live without hits (it was on sale!), there’s always the mountains.

We have a lot going on over the next several months here at Tomboy KC. Maybe it’s all of this New Year, New You stuff, but it feels like 2017 is going to be a bit more of a hustle bustle. Anyone else feeling that already?
From a soon to be announced six-month long interiors series to a massive photoshoot for Chloe Magazine that is actually taking place today (Katie is en route to Dallas as we type), if January is indicative of the reality of 2017, then we are going to need another cup of coffee…or 12.
Point being, be sure you are following Tomboy KC on Instagram (@tomboykc) so you don’t miss a thing.
Our insta-stories is sure to be full of shenanigans, behind the scenes snaps, surprise Katie takeovers, beauty tips, outfit details and previews of what we’ve got coming up. Starting today.
Consider this our uncut YouTube channel. Hell, we might even go live this afternoon from set. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

About this time last year, we made a call. If you were around and reading instead of just looking at the pictures (maybe 25% of you….?), we dubbed satin bomber jackets your Spring must-buy.
We hate to say we told you so, but, you know. We did.
And as much as we aren’t ones to jump in on trends just because they are trends, this is one we can firmly get behind. Kind of like the flat mule thing, we’ve gone hard in on this one.
Thanks to the proliferation of thinly padded MA1 bomber-style jackets on the runways, this now seasonless jacket is all of the things. And if you really want to do the trend right, make yours embroidered or patched. Embellishment is most definitely the way to go here.
We’ve even got a whole New Years look imagined around this sequined one…
While there are a multitude of colorways available (this burgundy one has our number), our ultimate favorite is still the army green interpretation. So if you haven’t gone in for the original, now’s the time. Call it the Top Gun effect, but something about the whole fighter pilot look has us feeling the need for speed. The more patches the better.
